Fluoride FAQs

There are always many questions surouding fluoride, especially for parents concerned with their children. "Do I need to be worried about my child drinking water with fluoride?" and "Do I need to worry if my child swallows toothpaste with fluoride?" are common questions we encounter at our office. Recently, the American Dental Association has summed up all of this information for you all in one place! Check out mouthhealthy.org  for frequently asked questions about fluoride. As always, if you have questions about anything on that site we encourage you to ask us at your next dental viist.

Halloween & Healthy Teeth

October is here which means that Halloween is just around the corner! For many children this means bags of free candy, and for many adults this means lots of candy at hand at home or in the office to snack on. Here are a few easy tips to keep damage to your teeth to a minimum:

Tip 1:  Try to consume candy with meals (keep the snacking to a minimum!)- You produce more saliva during meals which helps to wash away food particles and neutralize the pH of your mouth.

Tip 2: Avoid hard, sticky candy or candy that stays in your mouth a long time- The stickier the candy the longer it takes for the saliva to wash it away. The longer the candy stays in your mouth the more your teeth are exposed to sugars and acids.

Tip 3: Drink plenty of water!- Especially fluoridated water- (mostly tap water and even some bottled water has fluoridation, check the label!) It will help to wash away food particles.

Tip 4: Maintain good oral health practices like brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing at least once a day to make sure all lingering unhealthy bacteria is removed.

Notice: Office Closed May 20-31

We just wanted to give a friendly reminder that our office will be closed from Wednesday May 20 to Sunday May 31. We will be back in the office Monday June 1. If you need to contact us, please leave us a message via phone, email, or this website and we will follow up as soon as we are able to when we return!

Holiday Tips for Your Teeth

During this time we'd like to remind you to make smart choices when it comes to your teeth and give a couple easy tips to keep in mind in the coming weeks...

1. Use your teeth only what they are meant for- smiling and eating!! Please don't open packaging, bottles, etc with your teeth, it's an easy way to crack a tooth.

2. Be cautious with the treats- Especially things like toffee, candycanes, nuts, and popcorn that are very hard to chew. It puts a lot of pressure on your teeth and could also lead to a crack or chip on your tooth.

3. Keep a travel size toothbrush/toothpaste with you if you go somewhere for the day. That way you can keep your teeth clean after meals or snacking on sugary snacks!

Wishing you all safe and happy holidays!

How Your Holiday Shopping Can Support the CDA

Many people now do a lot of their holiday shopping online (let's be honest, they do a lot of their everyday shopping online too- not just holiday shopping). If you're anything like me Amazon.com is probably one of your go-to shopping sites, but you might not have heard about AmazonSmile. AmazonSmile has the same products and prices, but it donates .5% of eligible purchases to organizations of your choosing at no additional cost! There are plenty of charitable organizations to choose from, but we urge you to consider choosing the CDA Foundation. The CDA Foundation is a great choice because they spend 88cents of every donated dollar on direct care programs. So while you're getting some of your holiday shopping done online check out the AmazonSmile program and consider the CDA Foundation and restoring someones smile.
